About Sudhir Ahluwalia

I am a business consultant with 20 years of experience. My professional experience began in 1976, two decades before I joined Tata Consultancy Services as a global business consultancy leader. It started as a government bureaucrat in the Indian Forest Service.

During the first two decades of my professional career, I led teams. I planned and managed large and complex integrated land and forestry projects. I learned policy making, budgeting, financial management, troubleshooting problems, and operating on a scale in India’s hugely crowded and complex political and social environment. It was a phase of learning human management on steroids. My first book Indian Forestry was one of my first published works during this phase.

Some key highlights of the first two decades included:

  1. Drafting and implementing regulations,
  2. Conceptualizing integrated land management projects,
  3. Managing complex wet evergreen to desert ecosystems, and
  4. Learning how to negotiate deals with the World Bank and other multilateral and bilateral donors.
  5. Managing large jurisdictions and projects with thousands of employees and workmen
  6. Understanding the complexity of public policy
  7. Learning the art of navigating difficult political, social, and human territories.
  8. Leading teams and helping achieve complex goals and objectives.

I pivoted to the Information Technology industry private sector, where I spent the next 15 years as a business consulting leader. The main tasks  in this phase were:

  1. Secure and execute business consulting projects both in the public and corporate sectors.
  2. He has led consulting teams and executed projects in business transformation across multiple sectors ranging from retail, manufacturing, real estate, transportation, energy, and the public sector.
  3. Some key clients included Boeing Corporation, the International Civil Aviation Organization, Asian Development Bank, World Bank, Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Bay Valley Foods, Green Bay, Illinois, and multiple public sector entities in India and other parts of the world.
  4. Leading and participating in multi-billion dollar procurements, preparing and presenting proposals, presentations, and negotiating deals. Some marque projects included E-borders Uk NHS-UK, Lorry Loads UK, Boeing USA, CME USA, Starbucks, BCCI India, and others.
  5. Inorganic deal-making from target identification, conducting business due diligence, helping in term sheet drafting, and helping my client accelerate business growth.

Business Growth Advisory and Model

During my work as a business consultant, I have seen growth strategies of successful large corporations at close quarters and helped not-so-successful companies get back on the growth path.

Many entrepreneurs imagine that growth is just a function of marketing. Others believe that they will achieve business growth and new customers with the help of digital marketing. Growth is achieved when a complex interplay of people, processes, and technology works synergistically towards a pre-defined set goal.

Kindly review the content on Business and technology below the Business advisory tab that you will find in the header.  Many of the concepts in the Business growth model have been addressed there. This material is in response to questions of my readers.

BUSINESS GROWTH MODEL>

As you can see in the growth model outlined above, growth is an outcome of a business strategy powered by a business model and driven by marketing.

Digital marketing is often a good way to achieve marketing and business goals cost-effectively. Growth solutions, though, are not boiler-plated. The model above is a generic version. It aims to demonstrate that growth objectives require comprehensive treatment.

Contracting models

We offer performance-linked business advisory and business growth contracts. These have the following features:

  1. Clear definition of tasks, outputs, and milestones
  2. Payments are made only after business performance targets are achieved
